About Michelle Veenstra Johnson

I am an expert communicator, instructional designer, trainer, and manager. I excel at assessing the learning needs of individuals and groups, then devising strategies for delivering the skills and knowledge necessary for people to succeed. I taught and worked in higher education from to 2016, then transitioned to research and editorial support for the Section 809 Panel, where our work informs Congress about opportunities to reform the acquisition process of the Department of Defense and the federal government. As managing editor, I wrote and edited multiple articles for publication in national print and online outlets, coordinating closely with the Panel's communications strategy. In academia, I edited dissertations and articles for publication, served as general editor of a graduate-student journal, developed a book review section of an online journal, and oversaw the development and publication of FMU's annual composition guide. At Michigan State University, I developed a pilot university-wide online course on academic integrity. At Francis Marion University, I served as Assistant Coordinator of Composition, overseeing the daily management of the first-year writing program and the hiring and management of undergraduate employees who worked as tutors in our writing lab. I also incorporated meditation within my classrooms and created a weekly meditation session for faculty and staff on campus. I am passionate about creative and practical education that expands traditional thinking patterns, whether in academic or professional settings.
