About Michelle Velez

I’m a proud Bronx-born, first-generation Dominican American and a dedicated mother of two. My journey into public health began with personal experience — navigating healthcare systems, advocating for my family, and striving for better outcomes for my community. I’ve spent the last few years working as a Community Health Worker, supporting low-income Latino and Black families across the Bronx with chronic disease management, food access, housing stability, and health education. I recently earned my B.A. from Lehman College in Liberal and Interdisciplinary Studies, with concentrations in Health Promotion and Latin Studies. I’m now pursuing my Master of Health Education and Promotion with a focus on Community Health Education. My passion lies in bridging gaps between systems and the people they’re meant to serve.
