About Michiel Claessen

I am a Health Care Psychologist (GZ-psycholoog) with a special interest in neuropsychology. I have a strong background at the interface of clinical and research neuropsychology. In May 2017, I received my PhD based on research into navigation impairment in stroke patients. Currently, I'm employed part-time as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Neuropsychology at Leiden University. I am also working as Health Care psychologist (GZ-psycholoog) in clinical practice at Goudenhart in Zoetermeer and Rotterdam, due to my interest in being directly involved in patient care. I am combining clinical and research neuropsychology in my work, since it is my belief that merging these two fields leads to the best possible patient care. Special interests: cognition (esp. spatial cognition, memory and language),(neuro)psychology of aging, acquired brain impairment,(neuropsychological) diagnostics and rehabilitation, EMDR, German language and history (twentieth century), Berlin.
