About Michiel Evers

At the intersection of ESG and business, I assist companies in understanding and addressing the business implications of climate change. I began my career in 2014 as a Sustainability Consultant at KPMG, gradually specializing in climate change. I hold a degree in Science & Innovation Management from Utrecht University, with a focus on energy transition. My work at KPMG has allowed me to explore many aspects of how the corporates and financial institutions are managing their climate impact. My roles have varied from being seconded in internal sustainability departments to serving as a Responsible Investment Officer. I've developed decarbonization strategies, supported clients in identifying climate risks, and integrating climate considerations into products and services. Within KPMG, I also led the progress reporting for the Dutch Climate Commitment in the financial sector. Part of my daily job involves helping corporates and financial institutions to identify and manage their climate risks and opportunities, integrating this long-term perspective into their strategy and risk management practices. This includes implementation of the TCFD recommendations, supporting institutions with Science Based Target setting, developing greenhouse gas emission inventories, decarbonization strategies and implementation plans. As a data-driven professional, I underpin my advisory services with robust, quantitative analysis. I enjoy working in multi-disciplinary teams. Working with a diverse range of clients, from small Dutch institutions to large multinationals, has honed my skills in data analytics, presentation, and project management. I’m an outdoors person. In 2022, during a sabbatical, I embarked on a sailing adventure across the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean and back with my family, harnessing the power of the wind. While I’m as a professional very familiar with the consequences of climate change, this journey still confronted me with the consequences of hurricanes and droughts, the terrible state of many coral reefs and the increasing unpredictability of climate patterns. As I continue my consultancy, the firsthand experiences of witnessing the devastating effects of climate change during my sabbatical serve as a constant reminder of our collective responsibility. My commitment now, more than ever, is to support corporates and financial institutions in transitioning towards a sustainable future, harnessing innovative strategies and data-driven solutions to tackle climate risks and unlock new opportunities.
