Background

About Mick Brown

Making the World a Better Place to Eat (For 20+ Years) Best known for winning in 2015 as Grill Master Champion on the very first BBQ themed episode of Food Network’s “Cutthroat Kitchen” (Season 8, Episode 3). Chef Mick started cooking professionally in as co-owner of Mamie and Marie’s Dream Pizza in Culver City, CA. Later he moved operations to Gabe’s Bar and restaurant in Westwood, CA with new name Dream Pizza Chicago. Both eateries were highly praised by Food Critics from Culver City Times and Venice Magazine (who raved about the homestyle Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo). The Beverly Hills Weekly favorably compared their Deep Dish Pizza to UNO’s Chicago inventor Ike Sewell. It was then that he began supplying food to the Entertainment Industry, with dishes shown on episodes of "Blind Date","Philly" and ABC’s "Once and Again". A year before “Grill or Be Grilled” (Food Network) was watched by millions, he had appeared in an episode of "FrankenFood" on SpikeTV, and in one of the show’s most humorous (and popular) online promo videos “A Popcornlips Now!”. He was also seen catering BBQ Brunch for Tom and Katie’s engagement party at Lisa’s Villa Rosa Estate on BravoTV's “Vanderpump Rules”. Offscreen his 5-Star rated catering outfit Tastee BQ Grilling Company stayed busy feeding private office and industry events, as well as upscale Kid’s Birthday Parties and community organizations like Burbank Boys and Girls Club and the Santa Monica Police Dept. Most clients were serviced in private, but a few offered photo ops like pop stars Rita Ora and Redfoo (of LMFAO “Party Rocket” fame). As Executive Director of nonprofit BBQ RESCUES! Foundation, he has supported events for the American Cancer Society, Celiac Disease Foundation, Covenant House, Dallas United Way (Hurricane Harvey) and more. See @BBQRESCUESFoundation LinkedIn page. Private Grilling Lessons were not only requested by wives to teach their partners to use new Grills and Outdoor Kitchens. Other clients ranged from a Grammy Winning Producer, Disney Vice President, retired Teacher to an impromptu lesson on smoking Hotdogs on a suitcase grill for then Kingsford Marketing head (who was also in charge of all Clorox brands). The occasion was a commercial shoot with indie music group Johnnyswim.
