About Micky Wilson

I began my career in mining with BHP in 2003 where I completed a structured 2 year traineeship achieving formal qualifications in Process Plant Operations. This provided me with a solid foundation to scaffold my progress within the industry. In 2008 I commenced with Rio Tinto at its Yandicoogina operation as a fixed plant operator. During this time I learnt all aspects of wet plant, dry plant, stockyard and train loading operations. My knowledge and experience culminated in becoming an on the job trainer and assessor for other fixed plant personnel within the business. In 2014, I was seconded into the commissioning team for the newly constructed JSW and JSE plants. In 2015 I transferred within Rio Tinto to the Perth operation centre into the role of a controller. At this time I am responsible for controlling various fixed plant assets across Western Australia’s Pilbara region, I coordinate activities in order to increase efficiency in a safe manner according to an operating level agreement. This entails running plant efficiently and monitoring assets by investigating alarms that could lead to breakdowns and engaging with site and other stakeholders to ensure relevant information is collated and actioned in a timely manner.
