About Mihai Dima

Mihai Dima (MD) research interest are related to the forcing factors, physical mechanisms and impact of climate modes, tipping climatic components and Early Warning Signals for their critical transitions, dynamics and impact of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, mechanisms of past abrupt climate changes and glacial/interglacial cycles, impact of climate change on the human society. He has received bachelor and master degrees in physics from University of Bucharest and in cybernetics from Academy of Economic Studies, Bucharest. He received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Bucharest in Later, in 2004, MD was awarded a Humboldt Fellowship at University of Bremen. He has been carried out recurrent research projects at Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, Hamburg, at University of Bremen and Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, Bremerhaven, Germany, where he is an associated member of the Paleoclimate Dynamics group. In 2013 MD was elected president of the National Council for Scientific Research and in 2016 he was Secretary of State for Scientific Research and Innovation, Romania. During the 2018-2025 period MD led the Interdisciplinary School of Doctoral Studies of the University of Bucharest. Since 2023 he is scientific ambassador of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
