About Mikaila Elder

My name is Mikaila and I am currently enrolled in the Paralegal Certificate program at the University of the Fraser Valley and employed as a Legal Office Manager with the BC Prosecution Service within the Ministry of Attorney General. I recently graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology with a Certificate in Legal Studies. While studying during my undergraduate degree, I learned that criminology and the criminal justice system are complex and can be imperfect and complicated in many regards. I learned to appreciate the hard work of judges, lawyers, police officers, corrections officers and the like as they strive to provide a fair and equal justice system for individuals of varying socioeconomic, ethnic, cultural, and educational backgrounds. I have a keen interest in volunteerism and being socially active and responsible. I have been and currently am involved in clubs and committees that focus on making a positive impact and difference within the community. I enjoy making a difference in the lives of others and strongly believe in giving back to the community and using my voice to speak to what I believe in. I am a strong advocate against racism whether it be systemic or institutional and strongly believe in advocating for minority populations. In my spare time, I love to travel and explore new places and cultures and spend time with the people I love. Having a work-life balance is incredibly important to me as I value obtaining a stable career, finding time to enjoy the things I love whether they be volunteering or trying a new restaurant, and living a healthy life with my boyfriend, family, and friends.
