Background
About Mike Averett
I’m a Patrol Sergeant with the Aurora Police Department and an Army veteran with over 14 years in law enforcement. My background includes tactical operations, drug investigations, field training, and firearms instruction. I’ve served on SWAT teams, supervised critical incidents, and led from the front in some of the toughest situations officers face. Before my current role, I served in APD’s Wellness Unit, where I helped build programs focused on officer mental health, injury recovery, and long-term resilience. I believe in developing strong cops, not just tactically—but emotionally and ethically. Whether I’m leading an officers on the street or mentoring the next generation of officers, my approach is simple: protect the team, lead with grit, and never forget why we wear the badge.
