About Mike Bogle

A versatile jazz musician, Mike Bogle was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1992 for his arrangement of Chick Corea's composition Got A Match? An accomplished pianist, keyboardist, trombonist, vocalist, composer, and arranger, Mike serves as professor of Commercial Music and Jazz Studies at Cedar Valley College in Dallas. From 2004-2008 Bogle served in a variety of positions at the McNally Smith College of Music in Saint Paul, MN. Mike was Associate Director of Jazz Studies and Director of Music Media and Technology at the University of Texas at Arlington from 1994-2004 and Manager of the famed University of North Texas One O’Clock Lab Band from 1990-1994. As a performer, Bogle’s credits include Irene Cara (musical director and arranger), Doc Severinsen, Bobby Caldwell, Jaco Pastorius, Burt Bacharach, Diana Ross, Tom Jones, the UNT One O’Clock Lab Band, and Latin American artists Willie Chirino, Lissette, Gustavo Rojas, and El Grupo Chequere (Tania Records). Mike Bogle's students, including Norah Jones (1993 Brookhaven College Lab Band), have received awards from Downbeat Magazine and the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) including Grammy Awards, Grammy Nominations and Downbeat Student Music Awards. Mike has written textbooks for use with his classes including The Mystic Chord: Flavors of Jazz, Dr. Mike’s Fakebook, and a pamphlet on gig etiquette, Manners for Musicians. Mike has released three CD’s under his own name, Hipness Oasis (2012); Eternal Family (2004) which reached #28 on the Jazz Week Jazz Chart based on airplay; and Other Life (1994). Mike holds the DMA, MM, and BM degrees from the University of North Texas College of Music. Mike is also an alumnus of the University of Miami School of Studio Music and Jazz (Frost School of Music, University of Miami).
