About Mike Carroll

Mike Carroll has worked in the crop protection industry for the past 34 years with eight years previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He has BSc and PhD degrees in biochemistry from the Universities of Bath and London respectively. He is in charge of regulatory affairs at Eden Research in the UK and is piloting three biopesticide active substances and two formulations through the EU and US regulatory systems at the same time. This has resulted in US EPA approval of three terpene based active ingredients and two end use products plus related state end use product approvals for the fungicide Mevalone and the nematicide Cedroz. These products are now approved for sale across the USA including California which had separate reviews in parallel to the US EPA. In addition he has gained US approval for a new inert ingredient for inclusion in end use products. In Europe Mevalone has been authorised across the EU Central Zone and a new bird repellent maize seed treatment formulation has been granted an emergency use in Italy. In parallel the three terpene active substances are under review in the EU 1107/2009 renewal process. Prior to Eden Mike worked for TSG Consulting, Arysta, Dow AgroSciences and Monsanto. Mike has extensive experience of navigating the EU regulatory system for plant protection products with new active substances, review active substances and many different formulated products in both R&D and generic companies. Currently he is working with biopesticide active substances and formulations at Eden in the USA and EU and takes a keen interest in data protection and compensation issues which are very important to small and medium sized companies. He has served on various ECPA and Crop Life teams and has represented three different companies on the Crop Life Europe (formerly ECPA) Regulatory Policy Team. He has worked in the UK, Belgium, Germany and the USA and has citizenship of both Ireland and the UK.
