About Mike Egner

I live in the Champaign-Urbana, Illinois Area and have interests in geography, geographic information systems (GIS), meteorology, and green technologies. I attended school in Illinois. I achieved a bachelors degree in meteorology at Northern Illinois University (NIU) in May 2006. At NIU, I learned how to plot, analyze, and interpret weather maps with temperature, dew point, pressure, and wind and studied middle latitude cyclones. After NIU, I moved to and enrolled in graduate school at Western Illinois University (WIU). In grad school, I was introduced to the technology of GIS and made terrain, population, demographic, and land use maps with that technology. I also completed a thesis project at WIU. For my thesis project, I had to construct a model to predict streamflow for the Illinois River Waterway. I completed my masters degree in geography from WIU in July 2009. I like the technology of GIS a lot and that technology allows me to make digital maps on computers. I am currently an observer for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network (CoCoRaHS) and hope to get a full-time, permanent professional job soon. Specialties: GIS, Cartography, Meteorology
