About Mike Hinson

Hi, I’m Mike Hinson and I work for the city of Albemarle Fire Department. My skills are leading by example and treating everyone with kindness/respect. I had amazing mentors early in my career, they shaped me personally and professionally. Now I pass it on, and love doing so. Something unique about me is that the Fire Dept is my one and only full time job ever! I was recruited while in college, so I gave it a shot, got hired and the rest is history! I try to recruit people from diverse backgrounds to apply with the City of Albemarle. I believe we as city employees should match the demographics of Albemarle. I have done some public speaking at local high schools and middle schools. My goal was to let kids know that their decisions can greatly impact their futures. I understood that not everyone in the groups I spoke with would go to college, but it’s ok. I don’t have a college degree either, but I was blessed to find a great career. I wanted to motivate the students to find a passion, that they could achieve anything in life with hard work. I have done some personal training/diet in the past and I enjoy helping others achieve their health goals. Mental health is something I find important. I have always promoted seeking help when life happens. Encouraged numerous people inside my department along with friends outside my work to get help. It’s okay to need someone to lean on. I for one know I did. I firmly believe a healthy mind and body will greatly improve one’s life. As I become closer to retirement, I look forward to making some connections. I’m interested in helping underprivileged/served kids in Albemarle. I would love to learn more about mentoring teens, building self confidence along with learning from them. Not sure what is or will be available. I have time to figure it out.
