About Mike Hodsdon

Learning is my pastime, I like to learn anything and everything and subsequently experience is a key part of myself. I have been in a range of industries during my work career, this variety of experience & knowledge allows me to consider things in an unconventional and sometimes novel way. This alternative way of thinking that I continue to develop served me well in my previous positions. After my first position I sought employment as a means for personal development, the occupations I entered provided me with an outlet to challenge the limits of my comfort zone and develop life skills that are universally transferable. My position as a Field Service Technician with Secure Parking entailed working alone, which enhanced my independence and ability to work alone as well as developing my problem solving capacities due to the troubleshooting required in the duties of the occupation. I wanted to be as prepared as I could be before I moved into my career aspirations of an engineer. I had previously resigned myself to only a career in structural but I had come to realise that I have had very little exposure to the different fields in engineering and they all have the problem solving component which interests me; I became open to trying any field of engineering that is applicable with my Civil Engineering degree and so selected Water Engineering as my discipline.I specialise in soft skills such as teamwork, prioritisation, working under pressure, problem-solving, communication, critical thinking and flexibility.
