About Mike Hooper

My law practice assists businesses, primarily those in the energy industry, determine record ownership in surface and mineral interests, as well as assist in their operation and expansion efforts. For example, I can provide land and mineral title services to a business and also assist them in the buying and selling of those interests on both a large and small scale. That would include all related due diligence services. I also help companies in their mergers and acquisitions (including due diligence) as well as companies that want to purchase property for development, including site identification, assessment of financing options (both public and private) and oversight of all related legal needs. In my practice, I work to ensure that a company's expectations and objectives are timely met, on budget and with the least amount of difficulty. As a former Co-Practice Group Leader of Jackson Kelly's Land and Natural Resource Development Practice Group, covering eleven (11) offices from Washington, D.C. to Denver, Colorado, I understand the industry and have developed a successful team approach to my practice. I graduated from Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1979, attended Lehigh University, and graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with distinction in 1983. I then went to the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and received my law degree in 1986. I was the recipient of the Kaufman Award presented by the West Virginia State Bar for pro bono legal service; the Firestone 100 Who Serve Award; the Lions Club International Foundation's Melvin Jones Fellowship; and the West Virginia Lions Sight Conservation Foundation's Leonard Jarrett Award. Specialties: Mineral title, title and general real estate issues relating to the energy industry; commercial development and financing, business transactions, and mergers and acquisitions. Licensure: I am currently licensed to practice law in West Virginia and Ohio.
