About Mike Kelcourse

Mike Kelcourse is an experienced, innovator in the waste management industry. Mike grew up in the waste industry, as his family owned and operated MRFs in the Northeast for the better part of the past 35 years. He has intimate knowledge of how the waste industry works and has over 20 years of formal recycling industry experience. Michael started Kelco Recycling in 2013, which is a cardboard, paper and plastics recycler in the Jacksonville market. Kelco Recycling works with small and large businesses, municipalities, government offices, retail businesses, and more. Around spring of 2019, Michael noticed a large opportunity in the waste industry. After seeing multiple articles and literature in waste and recycling news about food waste and compost, he started doing due diligence around Jacksonville and Florida. Noticing the lack of infrastructure and volume of food waste that resides in Florida, Mike started researching the commercial compost and biochar industry and visited several of the best compost sites in the US. He used that knowledge to apply it in North Florida and implement it here. Mike started Sunshine Organics and Compost (dba Compost Jax) in Jacksonville FL in 2020. We are the only food waste commercial compost facility from Orlando to Atlanta, with millions of people in between. At Compost Jax we take food waste, yard waste, and any other organic waste and turn it into valuable compost and biochar; 2 soil amendments that can be used to sequester carbon and keep it in our soil. Compost Jax sells bulk compost, biochar, mulch, and pine bark.
