About Mike Lucas

With over 8 years of experience in chemical engineering and biomedical research, I am passionate about developing innovative solutions for challenging health problems. My expertise lies in engineering antibodies, studying amyloid aggregation, and applying biophysical and biochemical techniques to understand molecular mechanisms. I am currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Michigan, where I work with the Tessier Lab to design and evaluate a bispecific antibody for transport across the blood-brain barrier for the treatment of acute and chronic neurologic diseases. In my current role, I use a variety of methods to optimize and characterize the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, such as radiotracing, ELISA, immunostaining, qPCR, and western blotting. I also collaborate with other researchers to apply our antibody technology for ear/eye delivery and for immunoPET diagnostics. I have strong skills in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and protein engineering, which I have honed through my previous work as a graduate research assistant at The University of Texas at Austin, where I investigated the aggregation kinetics and structure of amyloid-beta and its effect on cellular phenotypes. I have published four first-author papers and received several honors and awards for my research and teaching excellence.
