About Mike McCabe
Reared on my family’s dairy farm, have called both cities and small towns home, even lived abroad for a time. Been a farmhand, journalist, educator, civic leader and nonprofit CEO. Had two nonfiction books published. First novel came out in October 2024.Experienced in nonprofit leadership, public sector management, legislative and political affairs, public policy research and analysis, social justice advocacy and investigative journalism. Led the independent government watchdog group Wisconsin Democracy Campaign for 15 years. Later founded the grassroots citizen movement Blue Jean Nation, which led to a run for governor of Wisconsin. Previously was communications director and legislative liaison for the Madison Metropolitan School District for six years. Before that, ran a statewide civic education program for the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance (now known as Wisconsin Policy Forum), and am a former legislative aide and newspaper reporter. Served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the West African country of Mali from 1989 to 1991. Also served as a mentor for Big Brothers and Big Sisters.Journaling at mikemccabe.substack.com
