About Mike Pihlman

Mike has over a zillion years experience in video conferencing, desktop videoconferencing, and IP-based video conferencing network design, implementation, and support. He has been a leader, since 1990, in the effort to bring cloud-based videoconferencing, desktop videoconferencing, and telecommuting / coworking to fruition. It worked! Mike has a Masters in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas and is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the National Engineering Honor Society, and Eta Kappa Nu, the Electrical Engineering Honor Society. He is a US Navy Vietnam Era veteran. Now retired, but still with a thirst for knowledge, Mike has split himself into several parts. He is: 1. The Director, and founder of, ForCarol.com a 501c3 non-profit awarding college scholarships in honor of Carol Phan (Mike’s daughter’s best friend) who was killed with three other teens in a car crash on Sept 18, 2010, one day before she was to attend UC Davis. He blogs movie reviews on the ForCarol.com web site. Carol loved going to the movies with us. A technology blogger on TechyMike.com. An avid reader, he blogs book reviews on TracyReaderDad.com. Until 2016, he was a substitute teacher in the Tracy Unified and Jefferson School Districts. Mike was the founder of AltamontCowork, the first coworking location in San Joaquin County, based in Tracy, CA. That business was sold on Dec 31, 2014.
