About Mike Rassmann

Mike Rassmann graduated with a BArch from the University of the Witwatersrand Architecture School in 2003. His final year thesis, titled Skatescape, was centred on the skateboard as a tool for reimagining the city and its architecture, a subject that he is still passionate about today. Following graduation he worked at Leslie Pon Architects, together with Kuba Granicki, followed by Giannini Loizos Architects, alongside Alessio Lacovig, until moving over to AOJ in late 2011, which he, Kuba and Alessio had founded in early 2010. While working at Leslie Pon Architects and Giannini Loizos Architects Mike attended several, project management, property law and building contract orientated courses at the University of the Witwatersrand giving him a solid understanding of the building industry. He is also actively involved in snowboarding in South Africa and has contributed greatly to the sport by documenting it through film for the past 6 years. The skills he acquired from this documenting have been incorporated into the AOJ skill set where Mike documents chosen projects on film. He also has an acute interest in industrial design and designs household and office items predominantly using laser cut steel as a medium, as well as some furniture pieces using more conventional carpentry and upholstery methods. His current position at AOJ is director and principal architect.
