About Mike Shaw

With over 25 years of experience in the marine industry, I began my career in the Nautical Sciences program at BCIT, serving as both seagoing and construction crew worldwide before transitioning into leadership roles. Over the past 15 years, I have specialized in submarine cable installations and marine construction, successfully delivering 65+ incident-free submarine cable projects. In the last 10 years, installed hundreds of individual cables as a Cable Superintendent/Offshore Construction Manager (OCM). My expertise spans the installation of fiber optic, 25kV distribution, 400kV HVDC transmission, and 245kV three-core export cables. I have worked extensively with observation and work-class ROVs, cable plows, and track trenchers aboard DP vessels, DP barges, and anchor spreads, ensuring precision and efficiency in cable installation and burial. In addition to submarine cables, I specialize in HDPE pipe and outfall installations, having contributed to several major outfall projects across North America. I was directly involved in the record-setting McLoughlin Point WWTP HDPE Outfall, serving as Tow Master and ROV Manager during sinking operations, overseeing MBR monitoring and touchdown. I have also worked as Construction Superintendent on submarine cable landing HDD projects, managing critical phases of installation and execution. A results-driven leader with a commitment to operational excellence, I continue to push the boundaries of marine construction, offshore engineering, and subsea infrastructure development.
