About Mike Tierney

With over twenty years in technology and administrative roles in education. I have a unique perspective of structured roles in technology and education. I was fortunate to be able to design multiple networks for a few different districts and then redesign a couple as technology progressed. In administration, I built out and led several different teams that focused on specific areas of the education system. I am a systems thinker and enjoy looking at data and discussing systems approach to solving problems. I am dedicated to lifelong learning, embracing new challenges, and appreciating nature. One of my most treasured experiences is planting tree seeds in the fall with my son. Recently, I have undertaken a position teaching cybersecurity courses within the largest school district in Iowa. This new endeavor has proven to be exceptionally rewarding. I have a profound interest in cybersecurity, exploring innovative teaching methodologies, and contributing to the development of a cybersecurity hub in central Iowa. My professional background encompasses networking, security, telecommunications, and leadership. I possess proficiency in budgeting and projections, bridging the gap between leadership and technology (BISO/Technology Director), and leading a team. Additionally, having a spouse who works in technology leadership within the industry has provided me with valuable insights into the distinctions between technology and leadership roles in education versus industry.
