I am a resourceful and innovative software engineer, with diverse coding experience. A jack of all trades, my previous areas of focus have included RFID/Bluetooth/wireless technologies, industrial automation and protocols, in-house apps/tool development, device verification testing, user interface (GUI) design, API samples/documentation and technical writing. I am exceptionally good at debugging complex issues. I am adaptable, and have thrived in a variety of development teams and environments, large and small, on-site and remote, orderly and chaotic, with experience extending across all phases of the software development cycle. I enjoy challenges and learning new technologies. Currently I’m actively looking at software/firmware positions, primarily in Christchurch New Zealand, where I have a home (but I am open to relocation.) Experience quick summary: • 10+ years C/C++ for Windows, Linux, RTOS and bare metal, developing firmware and software for commercial/industrial/devices • 4+ years developing C#.net apps for calibration/configuration/testing of various devices • Experience with numerous families of microcontrollers and their embedded IDEs (ARM, ST Micro, Atmel, Espressif, Texas Instruments, Infineon, Nordic, NXP, Motorola, Intel etc) • Experience with numerous industrial protocols (Profibus, ProfiNet, DeviceNet, Canbus, Devicenet, RS485, Modbus, Ethernet/IP etc) • 3+ years embedded dev for power systems (Solar and battery microinverters) • Experience in Ubuntu/Linux/GCC/WSL-based development • Experience in Microsoft desktop and mobile app platforms (.Net certified) and a former dev-lead for a Microsoft Consulting team • International experience (USA, UK, Italy, Germany, New Zealand) • First aid certified [NZQA Unit Standards: 6402 & 6401] by City First Aid Some other achievements: • Invented Datalogic/Balluff’s proprietary “C-Macro” embedded device language and visual editor/compiler, “Subnet16” multi-drop RS485 network protocol and “CBX” industrial communication protocol • Emergency visit to Stuttgart, Germany to create custom bricked-device-resurrecting-bootloader-firmware (single-day rescue) • Emergency visit to Overland Park, Kansas to create firmware to diagnose issues and fix operational issues in a pharmaceutical plant (single-day rescue) • Certified/published custom drivers through Microsoft’s Windows Update System I enjoy programming, robotics, AI, travel, cycling, astronomy, history, surf-fishing, genealogy, terrible Dad-jokes
