About Mike Webster

I am a Chartered Engineer (FICE, FIStructE) and have over 30 years' experience. I specialise in construction health and safety, structural safety, CDM, risk and regulation. I provide consulting, forensic and expert witness services in these areas. I have expertise in: CONSTRUCTION HEALTH AND SAFETY, STRUCTURAL SAFETY and the CDM REGULATIONS – having led a range of reviews, published over 20 reports and acted as an expert witness (instructed by both defence and prosecution) in over 20 cases involving allegations of corporate manslaughter, gross negligence manslaughter and breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act and the CDM Regulations (1994, 2007 and 2015) during construction projects; and SAFETY AND SERVICE LIFE OF CONCRETE STRUCTURES – having worked on the design, site supervision, appraisal and repair of building and bridge structures, led a range of research projects, published work, developed guidance for the appraisal of existing structures in UK, Europe and Hong Kong, and acted as an expert witness. Over the years, I have gained expertise in a combination of engineering, organisational and human risk. This helps me provide insight into what can go wrong, why it went wrong and what we can do to prevent it going wrong in the future I have been instructed as an expert witness in cases involving a range of collapses including reinforcement cages, bridge wing walls, bridge beams, demolition, stored glazing, stored frames, and temporary works. I have also worked on cases involving fire, rail maintenance, moving plant and falls from roof edges, through ceilings, through structural openings and though fragile materials, and in civil cases involving personal injury. I am a member of Structural-Safety (incorporating SCOSS & CROSS), IStructE Health and Safety Panel, Temporary Works Forum, Hazards Forum and Society of Construction Law.
