About Mike Wilton

I am a leader in Arup, excited about the opportunity we have as a Employee Owned firm to use the expertise in the Built and Natural Environment of our global colleagues to Shape a Better World. I have over 30 years expertise as a Civil Engineer, with particular experience in the development of urban infrastructure, flood alleviation, and transport infrastructure. I am often working in collaborative teams with our clients, to make complex urban sites suitable for regeneration, considering issues such utility planning, energy strategy, urban drainage, transportation, highways, streets, public realm, planning, sustainability, social impact and contaminated land remediation. I am the Global Leader of Arup's Civil Engineering and Utilities Skill Network, and the leader of our network in the UK, Middle East, India and Africa working with my colleagues to enhance the skills and expertise of all my Civil Engineering colleagues around the Arup world. I have worked in Greater Manchester for more than thirty years, and was from 2018 to 2024 the Leader of Arup's 500 people strong Manchester office, working with our clients and colleagues to deliver excellence for our city. For many years I have been been learning about how we can respond to the challenge of Climate Change. I am proud to chair the Manchester Climate Change Partnership, which brings together Manchester based organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to work collaboratively to help make Manchester a world leading city in limiting the impact of climate change, and creating a healthy, green and socially just place. I am also a member of the Greater Manchester Business Board that works in partnership with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to bring together the private and public sectors to support business growth, develop local skills and innovation, direct investment and reform public services.
