About Mikhail Charikov

After graduation from Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy, St.Petersburg, Russia I'm already more than 23 years in maritime business, started as engineer officer working on board ocean-going vessels for 7 years and continued as surveyor of classification society for next 18 years till present time. During service at sea, I gained comprehensive experience in main and auxiliary engines, turbocharges, boilers, electrical power plants and other vessel’s equipment and systems, hull operations and maintenance, management of engine room team and practical crisis management.During working with classification society I obtained a broad experience in classification and statutory services as well as in customer service management and management of people. I carry out work on different positions involving periodical and renewal surveys, audits of vessels and offices, certification of materials and components including MED, supervision of new building projects, vessels’ repairs and conversions, dry docking, assessment and verification of repairs in accordance with IACS requirements, drawings approval, PSC related surveys, verification of survey jobs, also quality assurance management and participated in several external IACS and internal QMS audits. I was involved into several corporate software platform migrations including training of surveyors, implementation of new IT tools and running seminars for ship managers and owners. In addition to surveyor duties, I am also responsible for planning, preparation and conducting surveys and audits in North Europe, assisting colleagues and shipowners with handling of technical and financial questions, keeping contact with Flag State Administrations or Flag liaison offices, if neccessary. Familiar with remote surveys, audits technics and have experience in conducting them. Through my work I have accumulated significant practical experience of the engineering, operational, management and cultural issues which influence the upstream maritime industry. This is combined in my work with a detailed knowledge of the relevant class and statutory requirements and its interpritations and experience of wide spectrum of analysis and assessment techniques. Working with classification, certification and verification for ships in operation, new buildings projects, equipment production have given me insight into system composition, inspection and testing methods, failure occurrences and its prevention, repair methods for hull, machinery and equipment and the respective class and statutory regulations.
