About Mikko Raikaa

I am a passionate and experienced professional specializing in Building Information Modeling (BIM), working as a Senior Lecturer at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. With a Master of Science (Tech.) degree in Building Production from Aalto University and a vocational teacher qualification from Haaga-Helia, I have built a diverse and solid foundation in both engineering and education. Currently, I am pursuing doctoral studies at Tampere University, focusing my dissertation on BIM learning and education systems. For over 16 years, I have developed my expertise in BIM through various roles, including software development and support, practical implementation on construction sites, and consulting for design offices. I have helped organizations by providing software support and development for 13 years, and I have trained professionals in BIM software and processes for more than a decade. My experience includes four years of BIM process training and consultancy, as well as three years of working as a BIM coordinator in challenging projects. In addition to my technical skills, I have a strong background in construction contracting, with six years of experience. My passion for education is reflected in ten years of teaching and training activities, where I have planned, designed, and delivered numerous training programs for students and professionals alike. I am skilled in software and digital pedagogy, course planning, and the development of competency matrices for evaluating and enhancing professional skills. Currently, I am responsible for developing and shaping BIM education at Metropolia, both in degree programs and in professional continuing education, working closely with other teachers and educators in the AEC industry. I thrive on supporting the professional growth of others and am committed to advancing the field of BIM through innovative teaching methods and comprehensive, up-to-date training programs. In addition to my role at Metropolia, I serve as the Chair of the Education domain at buildingSMART Finland. In this capacity, I work to promote BIM expertise and support the wider adoption of BIM best practices throughout Finland.
