About Milind Padalkar

I specialize in image processing, computer vision and deep learning. Until recently I was a senior postdoctoral researcher at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) in Genova, Italy. With a Ph.D. in Information and Communication Technology from DA-IICT, India, and previous experience as a senior research engineer at Vehant Technologies, I bring a robust industrial background. My expertise extends to actively collaborating with leading companies on defect detection projects, spanning various applications. I've contributed to crack detection in ceramic tiles, defect identification in textile yarn, and defect identification in infrastructure. Utilizing advanced computer vision techniques, I play a key role in developing innovative solutions for quality control and assurance. In my previous role, I focused on enhancing automatic license plate recognition (ANPR) systems, employing solutions like a two-layered convolutional neural network for super-resolution. Additionally, I provided mentorship on various projects, including optical character recognition, traffic light phase detection, and vehicle counting. I am also the author of a book and multiple publications on image processing, computer vision, and machine learning. As a side project, I also work on real-time processing of video streams to enable the use of computer vision algorithms for display in VR headsets. Proficient in C/C++, Python, Matlab, OpenCV, PyTorch, and Tensorflow, I possess a versatile skill set.
