About Millicent Opoku

As a fourth-year microbiology student and researcher, I am passionate about scientific inquiry and solving biological and biomedical sciences problems. I am dedicated to refining healthcare through an individualized care approach, innovative research, and providing quality patient-centered care and equal treatment to all persons. I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Virginia Tech, where I have acquired research laboratory, leadership, and service experience. I have also developed situational awareness and project management skills through my coursework and extracurricular activities. I am seeking to contribute to biomedical and clinical research and make impactful changes not only within my local communities but at a global level. Beyond the classroom, you will find me hosting and serving at free clinics provided for underserved communities, engaging and instilling a passion for STEM with children at STEM Outreach Events, volunteering a my local hospital's emergency department, speaking on panels to represent first-generation students, building the faith of others around me, and attempting to complete and learn new hobbies on my 2025 bucket-list!My goal is to use the tools around me, my love for serving others, and my passion for medicine and research to make meaningful impacts to better my community, advocate for underserved populations and improve everyone's access to quality healthcare and treatment.
