Background

About Mindele Vihko

I'm a property master with over ten years of experience in both film and television. In addition to drama productions I have also worked with documentary and theatre and printed advertisement. In recent years I have worked at the Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yleisradio), mostly doing work related to curating the prop collection. In 2021 I worked closely in a project between Yle Helsinki and Yle Tampere, bringing prop collections and renting systems up to date in both cities. As a props master I work both in and out of the set and do also set and prop design. I have a special interest in historical props, especially from the latter part of the 1900s but have worked in a wide spectrum of genres from children's fantasy to contemporary drama. I'm also skilled in making props myself. Always wanting to widen my horizons and learn new things, I studied my master's degree in Visual Culture and Contemporary Art at Aalto University with a minor in Urban Design and Planning. My special areas of interests are South East Asian art (especially film) and art in relation to the urban environment. I'm interested in combining art and science, art and social studies and am always open to projects relating to these matters. In addition to my work in the art field I am an educated travel counselor and have been able to use this expertise especially in art projects related to travel or marketing. During and after my studies I specialized in the intersections of art and travel, especially in the Finnish archipelago, Pärnumaa area of Estonia and South East Asia. Working in the travel industry has also given me a lot of experience in customer service, proving a very important skill in various situations. All sort of education is very important to me and providing children with quality art education is something that I have been making efforts to be a part of. Though my connections with Taksvärkki, Plan and IhmeFilmi I have been gaining experience with art education. I have also worked with children before my career in film and off course follow the field for the sake of my two children. In addition to working with children I have been giving lectures at my former school Turku Vocational Institute and had trainees as my students in film productions.
