About Mira Debs

As Director of Yale University's Education Studies Program, I coordinate education offerings across 13 departments and develop courses, teach undergraduates courses and advise students on research and careers in education. I have been a teacher (university and high school) for more than 12 years. My research has been funded by the Spencer Foundation and focuses on how families navigate the landscape of school choice in the US and internationally, and the opportunities and consequences that result. I am interested in education models that empower children and families of all racial and socioeconomic backgrounds and family efforts to support and promote integration. My work has been published in academic journals and the New York Times and the Washington Post. I also helped to start a local charter school in New Haven, CT, Elm City Montessori School. My research, education policy and outreach interests include: international education, school choice, desegregation, education reform, cultural sociology, social movements and Montessori education.
