Experienced General Counsel /Chief Legal Officer with a 25 year international career advising boards and C-suite executives in financial services, data, fintech, reg tech and market infrastructure, supporting organisations to grow and transform through strategic leadership in legal, regulatory and compliance matters. Currently as General Counsel for EMEA & APAC at MarketAxess, I lead Legal, Compliance and Regulatory Affairs, navigating the complexities of a highly regulated, multinational financial services business to protect and grow its value. This follows an earlier role with the GFI Group, and a formative career with magic and silver circle law firms. Beyond my executive career, I am a charity trustee, and was a founding member of a trade body, the European Debt Markets Association and chaired the organisation for two years, and was instrumental in the establishment of its spinoff association APARMA which represents regulated APA and ARM organisations in the EU and UK. My expertise-I support complex regulated businesses to mitigate legal, compliance and regulatory risk across multiple jurisdictions, delivering pragmatic solutions across a breath of activity, including M&A and joint ventures, general commercial, financial and capital markets, hi-growth, fintech SaaS solutions, employee relations, privacy, HR, IP and competition, disputes and litigation- I provide strategic counsel and advice on governance and regulatory landscape, risk, and employment, ensuring business resilience and supporting ambitious growth objectives. I draw upon my extensive experience in financial sector regulatory regimes in multiple jurisdictions to anticipate and prepare businesses for change- I lead talented legal, compliance and public affairs teams, across multiple countries and cultures, with strong rates of engagement, development and retention- I have a special interest in current innovation and change in financial markets, particularly digital assets and the future of money.
