About Mirella E. Sales

An experienced educator with a demonstrated history of success working with urban school districts to develop and implement school improvement strategies. Skilled in Project Management, Community Development and Advocacy, Data Analysis, Research-Based Instructional Practices, Curriculum Development, Professional Development, Social-Emotional Learning, and Youth Engagement and Programming- I began my career as a math fellow at a middle school in Houston. Then joined KIPP, first in Houston and later in Austin, to teach middle school math. In 2015, I joined KIPP Connect Middle School in Houston as the founding sixth-grade math teacher, rising to course leader, instructional coach, and math department chair. In 2017, I became the school’s founding Algebra I teacher, and in 2018, the Dean of Math Instruction. I have been awarded the KIPP Foundation's Harriett Ball Excellence in Teaching Award (2014) and the Kinder Foundation's Excellence in Teaching Award (2017). I hold a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies and M.Ed in Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston. Currently, I am a Manager of District and School Support and work on Good Reason’s Houston’s district and school strategies to support school turnaround initiatives and increase student access to high-quality education.
