About Miriam Abel

I am a driven and resourceful student activist with 7 years of experience on educating about and mobilising for human rights, Indigenous rights and social justice. I am fluent in English, German, and Wolof, intermediate in French and Spanish, and am developing skills in Arabic. My talent lies in building networks, developing relationships and creating dialogue between stakeholders and their networks. I practice deep listening and deep feeling to make sure my work is embedded in a reflective approach, that allows me to position myself in the context I work in. I aim to offer my skills, resources and time to underserved and historically marginalised communities, while working towards decolonisation and mobilising for the rights of self-determination and Indigenous sovereignty. I primarily work on the Unceded Territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), Katzie, and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Nations, where I live and learn. Fields of interest: Indigenous political systems, Indigenous sustainability, self-determination, self-reflection and critical thinking, deep listening, comparative politics, colonial histories, anti-colonial resistance, languages, intercultural communication and dialogue, and the role of African Indigenous thought in the Modern World
