About Miriam Simun

I am an artist, interaction designer and educator. The focus of my practice(s) is making systemic change. Systems are complex and dynamic, and do not exist in isolation. Thus, I am concerned with socio-economic, techno-political, and environmental change, and crucially, addressing the interdependencies of these systems. I specialize in mapping systems, analyzing functionality, identifying optimal sites of intervention, defining requirements, and creating change, be it through redesign, provocation, or re-imagination- My experience includes- Leading UX research and requirements gathering processes - Developing strategic and design direction for internal and external communication systems - Designing for web, mobile and physical space - Leading qualitative research projects for academia - Developing policy recommendations around the use of new media - Managing interdisciplinary teams - Speaking and facilitating on topics of technological, social and business change - Simun has exhibited and lectured internationally, including The Rauschenberg Project Space, Postmasters Gallery, The New Museum, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, CUNY Graduate Center, NYU Performance Studies, Concordia University and ART NOW Series at the University of Lethbridge. She is a 2013 Creative Capital Fellow in the Emerging Fields, and her work has been supported by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Smaby Family Foundation and Northern Lights. Her work has been recognized internationally in various publications, including the Art21, Design INDABA, BBC Radio Russia, CBC Radio Canada, Columbian National Radio, The Financial Post, The Atlantic, Core77, Hyperallergic, Fast Company and Duke University Press.
