About Miriam Thompson

After ~30 years in the healthcare/rehab sector as a physiotherapist (including a few years in the import/sales of rehabilitation tools/aids), I chose in 2017 to invest my energy into helping immigrants in Denmark with their applications for Danish citizenship. This includes helping them understand the requirements, including permanent residency. I do this as a volunteer through various organizations and am rewarded every time another of my fellow inhabitants gains their democratic rights in the country I now and for the past 20+ years call Home. In January 2020, I was one of three people that co-founded the community group "Fair Statsborgerskab!" where I was vice chairman the first 2 years, and chairman in 2022. Currently I am a regular member of the board. Through social media and other media platforms, Fair Statsborgerskab! actively participates in public debate about legislation in the area of citizenship through the naturalisation process. In addition, we advise others in the citizenship application process, primarily through our Facebook group "Dansk Statsborgerskab - tålmodighed påkrævet"(Danish Citizenship - patience required) A significant part of my time is currently spent advising both individually and in groups. This also makes up a good portion of the volunteer counceling I do through Den Frie Rådgivning (The Free Counselling Service) in Vollsmose, Odense, where I was active on the board of directors as a suppleant for 1 1/2 years.(2018-2020) My dream (payed) job at the moment would be in an NGO or similar organization where I could continue this work and more, with a focus on ensuring democratic rights, and achieving a cohesive society through integration of immigrants and their descendants in a country that does not have jus soli.
