About Mislael Valentin-Cortes

I am a social scientist and public health researcher focused on the intersections of extreme weather, environmental hazards, and health disparities. My work integrates epidemiology, program evaluation, and community-driven approaches to examine how structural inequities impact physical, mental, and reproductive health—particularly in Latin America, the Caribbean, and in the U.S.Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Michigan, where I study the health consequences of climate-related disasters and environmental injustices across multiple domains. My research spans the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Colombia, assessing how environmental and social conditions shape disparities and resilience.With over eight years of experience in health education, program evaluation, and applied research, I have collaborated with academic institutions, public health agencies, and nonprofits to develop data-driven strategies that promote health equity.
