About Misty Johnson

With over 15 years of experience in the learning and development field, I am passionate about designing and delivering effective and engaging leadership programs for diverse audiences and settings. As an Instructional Designer (ISD) with The Health Education Design Group (HEDG) at James Madison University (JMU), I collaborate with faculty, staff and federal grant stakeholders to develop online e-learning courses and modules that enhance the quality of services provided by workforce professionals nationwide. As a Workforce Development Manager at Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS), I oversee the learning and development of public health professionals and and leaders, ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge to address the health needs and challenges of the Virginia communities they serve. I have a master's degree in public administration (MPA) and a Certificate in Public Management from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), as well as multiple publications and honors in the field of HIV care. I have also acquired skills in project management, design, and Spanish language and culture through my previous roles and education. I am motivated by the mission of improving health outcomes and reducing health disparities through innovative and inclusive education and training programs. I bring diverse perspectives and experiences to the team, as well as a commitment to excellence and continuous learning.
