About Misty Scheel
CAPT Misty D. Scheel commissioned into the US Navy in January 2002. She is a native of Enid, Oklahoma. After a seven-year civilian nursing career, as an associate degree nurse, she graduated from the University of Phoenix with her Bachelor Degree in Nursing and joined the Navy. In 2005, she graduated from Touro University International with a Master’s in Health Science, with concentration in Emergency and Disaster Management. She continued her education with a Master’s in Public Health in Global Communicable Diseases in 2010 from University of South Florida. In 2018, she graduated from Walden University with a PhD in Public Health. Scheel’s career as a Naval Nurse Corps officer has led to many stateside and overseas tours to include Texas, Virginia, North Carolina, Okinawa, Guam, Italy, and combat deployments to Iraq in 2006, Afghanistan in 2011, and Continuing Promise humanitarian relief mission in 2018. During her deployments, she has served as an ICU nurse, MEDSURG nurse, Infection Control Officer and as senior Assessment Lead Officer. She has also served as a Labor and Delivery nurse, Ambulatory Care nurse in Primary Care and Internal Medicine clinics, and as Navy Specialty Leader for Public Health nursing from 2013-2016. Scheel’s leadership experience includes ambulatory care Clinic Manager in Corpus Christi, TX, and Guam. Department Head for Occupational Medicine and Preventive Medicine in Corpus Christi, TX, and Department Head of Wellness and Command Fitness in Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. She was also Senior Nurse Officer for the Boone Triad outpatient clinics in Norfolk Virginia. Deputy and Director of Public Health in at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, and Naples, Italy. Currently serving as DHA LNO. In addition to her research in malaria that was published in 2011, her research in Navy weight management and motivation was presented and published in 2018. She is the recipient of various personal awards, including six Navy Commendation Medals and one Navy and Marine Achievement Medal. Established HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) program that developed easily-accessible and clinically-rigorous process to reach at risk Sailors and Marines, which led to 2018 RADM Niemyer Award for Evidence-Based Practice. Senior Nurse Corps Officer of the Year 2014, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. Qualified Fleet Marine Force Warfare Officer during her tour in Iraq serving with the I Marine Expeditionary Force.
