About Mitch Burt

I’m passionate about leadership in the IT industry! I feel soft skills tend to be overlooked in today’s high paced and high pressure times. I believe a leader should, be empowering, remove obstacles, communicate in every direction, and be a catalyst to make a good teams great. My IT story starts at a medium sized business with a small IT team. I was the third member and was brought in to be customer facing. I learned a lot as the three of us were responsible for everything from phones and printers to servers and data centers at multiple locations. During my eight years there we grew from a team of 3 to a team of 8 IT professionals. My next chapter was being recruited by UHC (later Optum) by a former colleague to join their firewall operations team. After just under 2 years there I was promoted to team lead, and 8 months later to manage the team. I hired, mentored and built multiple teams for Delivery, Remediation and Operations. My team grew to 24 employees with a common goal of secure data delivery! After a combined 5 years in firewall it was time to train my replacement and move to new challenges. I moved over to our security tools team and managed a group of 12 people responsible for 2FA, DLP, Phishing as a Service, Key Management Encryption, and Asset Management. A few years after that I was again recruited by a couple of former leaders of mine to U.S. Bank. I was brought in to help with their firewall remediation as I had built the blueprints for that at UHC and to run the NAA team. Since moving over to the Bank, I have also lead other teams including: the Packet Broker, NPM/NDR, Event Management, and Network Mapping Automation Tool.
