About Mitch Hefter

Mitch has been working in entertainment and architectural lighting controls for his entire career. He has held various roles including system design, custom equipment design and applications, project management, and compliance. He is currently Senior Systems Engineer at Signify, formerly known as Philips Lighting. Mitch is very active in standards development. Mitch is a founding and still serving member of the ESTA Technical Standards Program - ANSI standards developer E1, and co-chairs the ESTA Electrical Power Working Group. As Engineering Commissioner for USITT, he oversaw the development of USITT DMX512. He also chairs the ANSI E1 DMX512 Revision Task Group. Mitch is also an active member of the IES Lighting Control Systems Committee. Mitch has worked on updates to the National Electrical Code since 1981, chairing the USITT 1987 NEC Committee, is a principal member to NEC Panel 15 representing IES and is the alternate member to NEC Panel 13 representing USITT. Much of Mitch’s work in the USITT Engineering Commission provided some of the foundations for the development of ESTA’s Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) and ETCP Recognized Training. He is one of the subject Matter Experts for ETCP Entertainment Electricians. Mitch co-chairs the USITT Electrical Workshops and is an ETCP Certified Electrician and Recognized Electrical Trainer. He is a regular presenter at conferences and trade shows. Mitch is a Fellow of USITT and active in the Engineering Commission. Mitch is a co-recipient of the 1993 USITT Founders Award for his work in control protocols and the National Electrical Code and an Honorary Lifetime Member of USITT.
