About Mitchell Biging
From a young age, I excelled in mathematics, I was fascinated by puzzles; sometimes those puzzles often required me to approach the problem differently. However, towards the end of my high school career, I grew bored of the rote memorization and definite answers of mathematics. I discovered a passion for literature and philosophy. I discovered through texts perspectives and lessons of life: our humanity, empathy, jealousy, longing, sorrow. I embraced the words of my professor, Dr. Fratz, and understood that humans are meant to experience "the full range of human emotions." I also learned the importance of cooperation and humility: we must live humbly enough to understand that we can learn something from everyone. I strive to apply this philosophy to my academic, professional, and personal life. I came to Japan in 2017 to study at Sophia University as an exchange student. I enrolled as a masters student in 2021 and finished my degree in Japanese Studies in March of 2023.
