Background
About Mitchell Hastings
I currently work at RIZZO International Inc, performing probabilistic seismic and volcanic hazard assessments for critical infrastructure. My technical work involves developing numerical and statistical models, and implementing new, novel approaches to characterizing seismic and volcanic sources. Additionally, I am a member of the Association of Engineering Geologists (AEG) Geologic and Seismic Hazard Technical Working Group (GASH TWG), where I participate and organize in international symposiums on geologic hazards. I graduated with my Ph. D. in Geology from the University of South Florida in 2022 in which I focused on modeling volcanic and tectonic hazards from interdisciplinary sets of geophysical and geodetic data. These range from work I have published on volcanic fields in Idaho, to developing slip rate budgets for the Costa Rican subduction zone and algorithms for locating multiplets or families of earthquakes beneath Telica Volcano in Nicaragua.
