About Mitchell Kriegman

A winner of the Director’s Guild Award, three Emmy Awards and twice nominated for a Writer’s Guild Award, his fiction has been published in The New Yorker, the National Lampoon, Army Man, Between C&D, New York Press, Glamour and Harper’s Bazaar. His novel Being Audrey Hepburn from St. Martin's Press is available on Amazon. His second novel Things I Can't Explain a imagining of Clarissa at 26 was published in 2015. Mitchell Kriegman began his career performing in the dark “An Evening of Stories and Tricks You Won’t See Anywhere” and other original performance art works in New York at Dance Theater Workshop, The Kitchen, Franklin Furnace and throughout the country. His video works are part of The Museum of Broadcasting, Whitney Museum, London Institute among others. He wrote the screenplay for Elmo in Grouchland and other screenplays for Sony/Columbia Pictures, Walt Disney Pictures, Rogue Pictures, Universal Studios and a Muppet movie for the Jim Henson Company. He worked at Saturday Night Live as a filmmaker, writer and performer. He is the creator and developer of the classic groundbreaking television series Clarissa Explains It All and Ren and Stimpy for Nickelodeon, he also created Bear in the Big Blue House and Book of Pooh for the Disney Channel and It’s A Big Big World for PBS. He was the executive story editor and developer of numerous other series including Rugrats, Doug and Life with Derek among others. His music has appeared in Bear in the Big Blue House, Book of Pooh and It's a Big Big world and is included in the Big Big Music Publishing Catalog. He design the original video for the Palladium and holds patents for a variety of hybrid animation techniques, teaches at Stonybrook Southampton's MFA Writing and Literature Program, is an Adjunct Research Fellow at UCD School of Education, Dublin and occasionally lectures at UCSB His culmulative career and work archive has been acquired by UCSB Museum of Art and Design and the Speical Library Collections. His writes as a contributing editor to the Montecito Journal and other publications.
