Background
About Mitchell Kuska
I am a licensed professional engineer (Ontario, Canada), living in the Netherlands, and I have focused on hydrographic surveying and project engineering. My key general skills include: • I have strong people skills and greatly enjoy interacting with and working with people. • I am very organized and excel in, and take great enjoyment in, project planning. • CAD software: Familiar with AutoCAD and DraftSight (incl. reviewing and making minor edits to existing drawings). • Programming languages: MATLAB (6 years), Python (2 years), Bash (2 years), knowledgeable in Fortran and C. • Experienced with various operating systems (Linux/MacOS/Windows), server computing (Linux), as well as extensive collaborative report writing in LaTeX and Microsoft Word. My key survey engineering skills and fieldwork experiences include: • Designed, built, troubleshot, and validated various remote controlled and semi-autonomous survey vessels (typically purchased for made for in materials and labour) that were used to collect bathymetry survey data. The vessels ranged from simple singlebeam echosounders to complex vessels equipped with a multibeam echosounder, dual-antenna RTK GPS, and pitch-roll-heave sensor, including features such as remote-data monitoring. • Completed all aspects of bathymetry surveys including planning, arranging of equipment, towing/launching/piloting boats (of up to 7 m in length), collecting data, and processing the data. • Surveys were often completed in remote locations that were difficult to access, in areas with strong currents, or in areas with lots of boat traffic. However, most surveys were completed within the Canadian Great Lakes. • Completed topographic surveys using RTK / basestation equipped GPS. When necessary set up basestation devices in appropriate locations. Skills associated with Service Engineering: • I have a very hands-on mentality and I love to work with hands. • I have strong people skills and greatly enjoy interacting with and working with people. This is very useful when discussing with the operators about what happened when the equipment broke-down. • I am very inquisitive, and have an analytical mind that wants to know how things work. • I am excellent at troubleshooting and identifying problems in mechanical / technical systems and solving them. This comes naturally to me. • I am an engineer with a keen aptitude for fixing problems with machinery, electronics, and surveying equipment.
