About Moeponi Pakkies

Moeponi Pakkies is a young, ambitious doctor, currently a medical officer in the department of Medicine at Livingstone tertiary hospital. She completed her internship at Klerksdorp-Tshepong hospital, where she got extensive exposure to patients living with HIV. She got to manage both advanced HIV patients with opportunistic infections admitted and those in an outpatient department. She has special interest in research, particularly HIV and TB, as well as haematological malignancies. She believes there’s still a lot of work to be done to eradicate HIV in Africa at large. There’s a lot of public education that still needs to be done, destigmatisation and support for people living with HIV. There’s even a bigger role for public health where preventative measures are concerned. Dr Pakkies holds a diploma in HIV management (CMSA). Even in her current job post in internal medicine, she has a privilege of treating a large number of patients with HIV related conditions, of which most are preventable conditions. She inspires to be part of the ground breaking research currently taking place with HIV and TB. She believes better days are ahead and looks forward to the future in research.
