About Mohamed Huque

My career has been non-linear but always bent towards advancing social change. That journey has taken me across various roles spanning from arts advocacy to social services, from grassroots organizations to global charities. My instrument for impact now is philanthropy. As a funder, I recognize the power of mobilizing resources to address inequality and the responsibility to shift the systems that uphold it. I’ve been fortunate to advise some of the world’s leading NGOs on projects that ranged from supporting micro-enterprises in Afghanistan to agricultural co-operatives in Sudan. Closer to home, I helped develop Canada’s first national reading strategy, led a research institute to combat Islamophobia, and a frontline social service agency supporting low-income communities. My most precious gifts are bridging worlds and connecting dots. I am most grateful for the opportunities to convene people and ideas together to tackle a complex problem. Empowering communities to develop their own solution-making has been at the core of all that I have done. I value service and learning at every opportunity. Whether that is serving as Board Chair at Amnesty International Canada or as an Ariane de Rothschild Fellow at Cambridge University, all of these rich experiences have shaped me to becoming who I am today. Fun fact: I once edited Margaret Atwood!
