About Mohamed Zaalouk

Mohamed is experienced in the Environmental and Social (E&S) appraisal of projects financed by International Financial Institutions (IFIs), including Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) such as the World Bank (WB), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the African Development Bank (AfDB). Mohamed has experience with undertaking multiple E&S assessments, including: • Carrying out Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) before financial transactions; • Conducting monitoring audits for lenders during the lifecycle of projects; • Developing and implementing construction and operational Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS) and Management Plans (ESMP) according to international standards; • Undertaking environmental site assessments; and • Preparing environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) studies according to international standards, including: • The WB's Environmental and Social Standards (ESSs); • IFC's Performance Standards (PSs); • EBRD's Performance Requirements (PRs); and • AfDB's Operational Safeguards (OSs). Mohamed has worked in a diverse range of industry sectors, including: • Agriculture; • Education; • Energy; • Food and beverage; • Infrastructure; • Oil and gas; • Pharmaceuticals; • Renewables; • Research and development; • Transport; among others. He managed multiple assignments and responsibilities within these sectors, including identifying and benchmarking environmental and social impacts and risks associated with the projects against applicable local and international standards. This has been done through: • Undertaking site visits to construction and operation sites; • Conducting interviews with management and workers; • Assessing labor conditions at the workplace; • Engaging with different projects stakeholders; • Reviewing projects’ documentation; and • Evaluation and reporting on all the aforementioned aspects. All of this helped Mohamed understand how responsible investing and sustainable finance for economic growth can simultaneously impact people's lives positively while protecting the environment. Mohamed is a native Arabic speaker, and he is fluent in English. He holds a BSc. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Science and Technology in Zewail City, Egypt. Countries of experience cover multiple zones in North Africa, West Africa, and the Middle East, including Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, Jordan, Oman, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
