About Mohammad Naeem
Mohammad Naeem is a youth activist from County Mayo, Ireland. He served as the United Nations Youth Delegate for Ireland 23/24, the youngest to ever be selected globally. He also served as the Deputy President of the Irish Second Level Students' Union 23/24. Mohammad was appointed to the DCEDIY Advisory Group on Racism and Racial Equality. One of the main roles of the group is to monitor and help to progress the implementation of the National Action Plan on Racism 2023-2027 Mohammad began his activism journey at a young age when he joined the Green Schools Committee in primary school and was a part of his local scout group. He has been involved in most of the major youth organisations in Ireland at the highest of levels. Mohammad was involved with Mayo Comhairle na nÓg (Irish Youth Council) and was elected chairperson of the group. Here he worked on Youth Mental Health, Climate Action, and Young worker's rights. He was appointed to the Mayo County Council Climate and Biodiversity sub-committee becoming one of the youngest people at 16 to sit on a local government committee. He was invited to speak in Croke Park in front of hundreds of young people and decision-makers such as the Taoiseach, about his journey in Activism. Mohammad has worked in Climate Action, he was appointed a Climate Ambassador by An Taisce. He has taken part in ECO-UNESCO's Youth for Sustainable Development program. In 2022 he entered his bio-diversity project "Planet Bee" into the Young Environmentalist Awards which won the Highly Commendable category. He was also appointed to the National Youth Assembly of Ireland as a sitting delegate, an assembly that gives young people a platform to raise their voices on certain issues. He played a vital role in the organisation and facilitation of the Climate Youth Assembly. He has also been heavily involved with the Ombudsman for Children Advisory group, he played a key role in the compiling of the children's report "Pieces of Us" which he presented to the Committee on the Rights of the Child at the United Nations in Geneva. Mohammad has been involved with the Irish Second Level Students' Union for many years now as a representative, he was first elected by students across Ireland in 2021 to sit on the National Student Executive who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the organisation. In 2023 he was elected for his third time as Deputy President. Due to his extensive work, Mohammad has spoken at prestigious events and won many awards including Mayo Young Person of the Year 2022 and Young Environmentalist of the Year 2021.
