About Mohammad Salimi

During the past ten years, I have been involved with the planning and operation of power systems. My Ph.D. project focused on transmission planning under uncertainties. More specifically, I developed a two-stage model to boost the resilient performance of transmission systems under an upcoming windstorm. I helped the decision-maker arrive at a suitable scheduling decision regarding cost-robustness trade-offs and restoration effectiveness. During my placement with the city of Saskatoon, I investigated adaptation strategies in the grid's operation against heat waves by interviewing industry experts and asking about their viewpoints on mitigation practices. I was also a research assistant at Amirkabir University of Technology, the Center of Excellence on Power Systems. I presented a microgrid formation model to optimize resource planning in distribution systems against N-k contingencies by coordinating power flow with radiality constraints. The results of my works have been published in reputable journals, such as Transactions on Smart Grid. These experiences have made me comfortable working with different software tools, such as Matlab, Simulink, and Python, and communicating with various stakeholders. Based on my learning attitude and the challenges I have coped with so far, I am confident that I would contribute as a power system engineer to industry projects concerning transmission planning, generation interconnection, and NERC standards compliance.
